Local Photographers: Kim Campisano, Chantal Monte, and Nikki Pratchios
July 15 - August 30, 1997
On Tuesday July 15th, Aquarius Records is proud to show the work of three local photographers: Kim Campisano, Chantal Monte, and Nikki Pratchios.
All three women have been working primarily photographing live music in the Bay Area. Each artist brings her own unique vision to this group show.
Newcomer Chantal Monte has only been photographing a little over a year-crossing the line from musician to image maker, but has managed to capture the raw energy of the underground garage scene revolving around the legendary Purple Onion. She's also currently producing a video documentary on this specific San Francisco sub-culture.
Nikki Pratchios grew up here in San Francisco and has been photographing bands for almost twenty years. Her work in this show represents musicians in intimate settings with whom she's has found a common bond. Nikki's photographs are often created over a long period of time documenting a band as they grow. She is currently working with the Sunshine Club.
Like Chantal, Kim Campisano is also a musician. This connection often transcends her photos. In her own words, "this work is more than visualizing sound. It is an attempt to photograph music in addition to musicians. These are not portraits, but visual interpretations of a musical event: the spirit of the evening, the audience, the venue, the heat, the volume, the performers' energy (mood, group dynamics, level of intoxication)...the atmosphere." Kim has been photographing musicians, for over 10 years and her visual records have in time turned into a form of participation in the event itself.
There will be an opening reception for the artists at Aquarius Records on Tuesday July 15th from 6:30 PM until 8:00 PM. Aquarius is located at 1055 Valencia Street near 22nd. Please call the store for any further information.
