In autumn 1999, Aquarius Records celebrates three years in the Mission and is honored to consistently exhibit photography and art relating to music. Our upcoming photography exhibit brings the work of local artist Dianne Jones to the walls. Having been involved in previous shows at Aquarius, My Friends and bands I like... includes photographs of Dianne's unique interpretation of the music and the atmosphere around the musicians.
The photographs display her vision in a unique and personal style influenced by the photographers she enjoys like Roy DeCarava, William Eggleston, and Jack Pierson. Currently Dianne is working on her MFA in Photography at Mills College, investigating cultural and anthropological issues relating to the American family. Her interest in photographing musicians began when a friend suggested she photograph a show they were attending, which lead into her photographing the music she listens to and musicians she knows. She has a connection to the artists/musicians in this show beyond that of a traditional spectator/editorial photographer. The images included in this exhibition are not always straightforward photos of musicians performing, but often obscured views evoking the mood of the moment Dianne finds at live shows and in the studio of her creative circle of friends.
Some of the musicians in this exhibition are Mercury Rev, Tarentel, Spaceheads, TransAm, Court & Spark, Amber Asylum, Will Oldham and many others.
Please come to the opening reception for Dianne Jones-My friends and bands I like... at Aquarius Records on Saturday, October 9th - 7:00PM - 9:00PM. Aquarius is located at 1055 Valencia Street near 22nd Street. Please call the store at 647 2272 for any further information. Everyone is invited.
This reception is timed to coincide with both the Valencia Merchants' Association second ARTWALK event and also with Open Studios.
