Lance Dawes
May 8-July 13, 1997
From May 8th through July 13th, 1997 Aquarius Records is pleased to
show the photography of local photographer Lance Dawes. Lance has been
photographing music for the last ten years documenting the Hip Hop and
Hardcore scenes. This show represents a cross section of his work from
the last seven years-most of which was shot while on assignment for SLAP
Magazine, of which he is the editor. The rest shot purely out of his
passion for the musical moment. His photos are always taken from the
center of things, whether it's a portrait of the Beastie Boys, or in the
mosh pit at Gilman Street, Lance is right there where the action is. His
energetic photos of the Bad Brains, and Social Unrest are complimented by
his informal portraiture of Green Day, House of Pain and even some punk
kids at shows. Regardless of how or where these photos were taken, one
thing comes across clearly and that's Lance's ability to capture the
intensity and raw power of the music he loves.
There will be an opening reception for the artist at Aquarius
Records on Thursday May 8th from 7:00pm until 8:30pm. Aquarius is located
at 1055 Valencia Street near 22nd. Please call the store for any further
information.
